GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. — The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division has charged a Hemingway police officer after a fatal officer-involved shooting last weekend.

Officer Cassandra Dollard has been charged with voluntary manslaughter for shooting and killing Robert Junior Langley, 46, after he failed to stop for authorities in Georgetown County, according to SLED.

On Sunday, WPDE in Myrtle Beach reported an investigation was underway after a police chase ended in a fatal officer-involved shooting.

According to court documents, a vehicle chase began around 1:30 a.m. after Hemingway police attempted to pull over Langley in Williamsburg County for ignoring a stop sign.

The pursuit led into Georgetown County where Langley drove his car into a ditch near Choppee Road and School House Road, court documents said.

After the crash, Langley tried to leave his car through the front passenger door.

According to charging papers, Dollard claimed she feared for her safety and due to that fear, fired her service weapon.

SLED said Langley was unarmed when he was shot once in the encounter with Dollard.

Langley, of Hemingway, was identified by the Georgetown County Coroner as the victim. He was taken to a local hospital after the shooting where he was confirmed dead.

An autopsy is scheduled for Friday morning at the Medical University of South Carolina.

Dollard was arrested and booked into the Georgetown County Detention Center on Wednesday.

The investigation remains ongoing.
